I’d say that Big Oil is back to its old tricks, but it never stopped, team.
By one report, the oil and gas lobby spent $72 million in the first half of 2024 alone. That's only the tip of the iceberg, because that's just the money we can track. It doesn't include the dark money the fossil fuel industry pours into our politics to sow climate denial and block the clean energy transition.
The Washington Post has reported that Donald Trump requested a billion dollars from oil barons for his campaign. In return, he'll happily give them their wish list of free-to-pollute policies that pad their profits.
As long as Big Oil is pulling the strings on the Republican Party, the fight for our climate and our children's future is going to be a steep, uphill battle. To get the planet to the safe zone, we need to shine a light on dark money and fix our broken campaign finance system.
