Hi John, it’s Jared Huffman’s cat Truman writing to you about Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance and his penchant for saying weird, misogynistic things about women. There was his insulting claim that the “whole purpose of the postmenopausal female” is to babysit grandchildren. But the one that really makes me hiss is his claim that “childless cat ladies” are miserable failures and should therefore have less voting power in America. My human, Jared, tells me not to take it purr-sonally.
But that particular insult is so mean, ignorant and wrong that I can’t stop arching my back at JD Vance. It shows exactly what he thinks about women without children – and let’s be honest, women at large. And cats. It’s a window into his character.

If you ask me, JD Vance’s baseless claims about women without children are paw-thetic – an embrace of 19th century dogma that says women are second-class citizens who exist merely to produce and raise babies and do what men tell them to do. JD Vance wants to take us backward to that wrongheaded social structure.
