There's no doubt that times are tough right now. So many of us are facing unprecedented uncertainty -- and too many South Jerseyans don't know where their next meal is coming from.

Food security is not a new problem. Even before this crisis, countless families were struggling to make ends meet and keep food on the table. But in the face of a public health emergency, a rise in unemployment, and even disruptions in the food supply chain, it's clear we're going to have to work even harder to keep our communities fed.

On the federal level, I'm fighting for the funding necessary to get vulnerable populations the healthy, affordable food they need right now. Already, we've added $400 million to our Emergency Food Assistance Program, $500 million to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, and $250 million to guarantee food services for our nation's seniors -- among other investments in emergency food assistance.

This incredible organization has always worked hard to get the most vulnerable among us the nutrition they need and deserve. And throughout this crisis, they've eliminated barriers to food distribution and found creative delivery solutions to minimize contact.

The Food Bank of South Jersey is a critical resource right now. They are delivering two weeks’ worth of food supplies to our seniors and emergency food bags and boxes to families. And make no mistake: these are fresh meals and shelf-stable foods.
