Greedy corporations want Americans to believe that anything the government can do, private corporations can do better.

It’s a lie.

Corporations like H&R Block and Intuit (who makes TurboTax) have spent millions of dollars lobbying to keep taxes complicated in order to keep Americans reliant on their products―so that they can keep charging us fees. It’s the same privatized scam that Wall Street wants to replace our Social Security system with―forcing us to pay even more to corporations to get even less out of the benefits that we need and have paid for.

This year, the IRS finally rolled out a free, public alternative to TurboTax. Reviews were rapturous. But Wall Street lobbyists are already trying to kill it. The key weakness they see is that states have to opt in to the free public filing system, otherwise people will have to use one system for federal returns and a different system for state returns. We need public pressure on governors to OPT IN to the IRS direct file program!
