My Plan to Deliver for America’s Veterans

America’s veterans have sacrificed to defend our great Nation and safeguard our freedoms, so it is only right that they have the enduring support and resources they need to succeed throughout their lives. Given the problems that have historically plagued the VA, including misspending, inconsistency in providing quality healthcare, and backlogs of claims, my focus is on ensuring the VA is reformed to effectively meet its mission and serve our veterans.

My Veterans Plan is designed to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families are well-equipped, properly supported, and receive the full benefits they have earned. It also outlines steps to honor our country’s veterans for their service. Recently, we hosted a Vietnam War Commemorative Pinning Ceremony at Historic Fort Ontario to recognize Vietnam Veterans in our community. It was a privilege to honor these veterans and finally give them the formal welcome home they deserved so many years ago.

I am committed to making sure that programs for veterans are transparent, effective, and affordable, and that all veterans receive the thanks they deserve for their service.

My Tax Plan to Lower Costs for Families and Small Businesses

My top priority has always been to protect New York taxpayers and promote economic growth by advocating for a tax code that rewards hard work and entrepreneurship, allowing Americans to take home more of their earnings. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees the nation's tax policy, I am leading the charge to make the tax code work for all Americans and help small businesses here in NY-24 thrive. This week, I released my Tax Plan, which aims to reduce financial burdens on families and bolster small businesses in NY-24 and across the nation. I remain dedicated to advancing tax policies that are pro-growth, pro-worker, and fiscally responsible, protecting hardworking taxpayers from high prices and government waste.

Standing Against Anti-Semitism: Holding Universities Accountable

On day one of the school year, the pro-Hamas mob began terrorizing Jewish students at Cornell University. Sadly, this is just another example of the blatant anti-Semitism that continues to jeopardize the safety of the Jewish community on and off college campuses.

Just days following the heinous terrorist invasion of Israel that has killed over 1,300 Israelis, a professor at Cornell referred to the slaughter of Israeli civilians by Hamas as "energizing" and "exhilarating" while speaking at a pro-Palestine protest. I demanded that he immediately resign for his anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas comments, yet following a one-semester leave of absence, he is back teaching this fall.

Colleges and universities are responsible for protecting all students from hate and violence. Cornell and every other university across the country must wholeheartedly condemn this vile behavior and enforce strict consequences for those who perpetrate it.

As your representative in Congress, my top priority is championing legislative initiatives that benefit you and your families. Each week, I review numerous bills and letters, engaging in thorough discussions with members of our community to determine which actions to support and address your needs. Below are a few bills I recently cosponsored.

Protecting Rural Seniors Access to Care Act: This bill aims to prevent the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from enforcing new, one-size-fits-all staffing requirements for long-term care facilities. These requirements could severely impact facilities in upstate New York, particularly in rural areas, by forcing them to reduce patient intake or close down entirely due to staffing shortages and financial strain.

Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2024: This bill would revise the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2021 to ensure that veterans receive the claims they are owed and are able to receive a jury trial as Congress intended. This commonsense bipartisan fix will ensure that our veterans no longer face unnecessary barriers to receive the justice they deserve.

Stop Trying to Obsessively Vilify Energy (STOVE) Act: This bill prohibits federal agencies from promulgating rules or guidances that restrict or ban the use and purchase of gas powered stoves, ranges, or ovens in the United States. This commonsense legislation protects the constitutional rights of Americans from being infringed upon by out of control, unelected Washington bureaucrats.
