Dear Friend,
Victory! Earlier this week, the Department of the Interior decided to uphold protections for 28 million acres of land in Alaska, protecting intact ecosystems from fossil fuel leasing, hard rock mining, and other extractive development. Maintaining these protections is vital for protecting the health and resilience of Alaska’s ecosystems, subsistence hunting, fishing, and gathering for Alaska Native peoples. This decision is also in part thanks to the advocacy of Earthjustice supporters like you. Earlier this year, 21,000 people spoke up to safeguard these public lands.
Legal advocacy combined with action taking is a winning combination that gets results. Nonetheless, our fight to protect the environment does not end with this decision, and we still need your support. Supporters like you rise to the occasion during every comment period and opportunity – and it makes a difference. Click here to take all the actions below on one page.

The Environmental Protection Agency is failing to protect us from this neurotoxic pesticide
Did you know that the EPA proposed to re-register a neurotoxic pesticide for use in our food? It’s time for real change. The EPA is collecting comments for the public to weigh in on the risk assessment for malathion and we have until September 16 to urge the EPA to protect children and farmworkers from exposure.

Protect Indigenous territory from Canada’s gold mines
Time is running out for the transboundary rivers of Alaska and British Columbia (BC). More than 500 miles of salmon-supporting rivers and streams in the Taku, Stikine, and Unuk River watersheds are threatened as Canada rushes to expand gold mining projects in the area. Under international human rights law, Canada has an obligation to get the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples impacted by the mines polluting their watersheds. Urge Canada’s leaders to freeze all mining activity in the region until the Tribes are consulted.

Pipelines transporting carbon dioxide are dangerously under-regulated
Pipeline companies are planning to build out a network of CO2 pipelines throughout the Midwest and Gulf Coast regions. But carbon dioxide pipelines pose significant safety hazards to communities and the environment. Tell the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) that it must ensure the safety of communities and recognize the immediate need for comprehensive regulation of CO2 pipelines.

Urge the Environmental Protection Agency to authorize this crucial clean air rule today
We all deserve to breathe clean air and there’s a new state rule that can help make a big difference — but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must approve it first. We need your help to see this rule put into action and adopted around the country. Send a letter to the EPA today.
