**BREAKING NEWS**
FINAL PUBLIC CHARGE RULE
Effective on October 15, 2019
Dear Allies,
Yesterday was the day we all hoped would never come. DHS’s final public charge rule has been posted to the Federal Register for inspection, with official publication scheduled for Wednesday. Here is a link to the final rule. If litigation does not prevent the rule from taking effect, the policy will become effective in 60 days on October 15. We will share more about the content later today and in the days to come. Please see the following stories from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Politico. We will be sending another e-blast to the campaign later today with more information.
We will be hosting two calls - a quick campaign call for today and a more in-depth call on Wednesday - to discuss the DHS final rule on public charge. In the next few days, we will be doing a deep analysis of the final rule text and updating our talking points if necessary.
HERE ARE SOME EVENTS YOU SHOULD JOIN:
Public Charge Rule Finalization - Campaign Webinar
WEDNESDAY at 12:00pm ET (9:00am PT)
For this webinar, we will provide a deeper dive into content of the rule and provide updated talking points, including what to tell immigrant families.
Join MomsRising and the PIF Campaign for a community facing and informational session on the final rule. This event will be hosted in English and Spanish. Please share widely with you networks.
The next days and weeks will be intense ones, and we are so grateful to have all of you with us. Together we will grow stronger in the fight to achieve our vision: a nation where all are truly equal, immigration is recognized as a strength, and no one in America is denied the essentials of life because of where they were born.
We will update you all very soon!
Elizabeth Lower-Basch (Center for Law and Social Policy), and Connie Choi (National Immigration Law Center), on behalf of the Co-chairs of the Protecting Immigrant Families Campaign
