Hands Off Seattle’s Minimum Wage Canvass with Restaurant Workers United
Tuesday, Sept 3rd, 5:30pm
In front of Café on the Ave
(the corner of University Ave NE & NE 42nd St)

RSVP

Restaurant lobbyists are pushing the Seattle mayor and City Council to permanently cut Seattle’s tipped workers’ wages in the coming weeks. Seattle became the first major city in the US to pass the $15 minimum wage in 2014, and many other cities have since followed suit. If the two-tiered wage system is preserved, it will embolden lobbyists in other cities to go after minimum wage legislation. Workers kept Seattle businesses afloat during the pandemic and continue to face steep cost of living increases year after year. For a city with 11 billionaires and over 50,000 millionaires, this raise for restaurant workers is long overdue.

Join Restaurant Workers United and Seattle DSA as we canvass restaurants in U District on Tuesday, September 3rd. RSVP here.

We’ll be meeting at Cafe on the Ave at 5:30 PM, along with DSA members postering for the fall Socialist Job Fair!

How to Stop School Closures?
The Fight to Stop Closures in Seattle From 2009 to 2024

Thursday, September 5, 6pm
Hybrid meeting: At the Beacon Hill Library – and Online
RSVP

Seattle DSA’s Working Group SOS – Save Our Schools invites you to our meeting with speakers from the Social Equality Educators, the rank-and-file caucus at that time in Seattle’s Education Association, who fought against school closures in Seattle in 2009 that were almost all reversed, to help us draw some conclusions for our effort to stop the planned school closures in 2024.

The plan to close 20 out of 70 elementary schools in Seattle
for the school year 2025/26 is the largest attack on public education in the nation since the school closures in Chicago 2013.

We will also discuss updates on the school district plans in 2024 – and how we plan to fight back.
