Dear John,

Our definitive guide to extending the Brexit transition period is here!

Alongside our arguments and our polling, we’ve set out the exact constitutional mechanisms by which the UK can secure an extension to the Brexit transition period.

We’re sending this briefing to every MP and peer in the country. With this information at their fingertips and all the arguments for extension spelled out, we’re that much closer to securing an extension.

It is vital the UK begins preparing to request an extension as soon as possible. We only have until 30th June to request an extension or be faced with a potential no deal.

To aid this process, we have created a diagram which shows the route from the date the UK left the EU in January 2020 to the end of this year and the choices the UK government must make regarding the UK’s future relationship with the EU.

You can see it here. <[link removed]>

There are only two rounds of talks left before the high-level UK-EU meeting in June. With the deadline for requesting an extension due on the 30th June 2020, when the country is still likely to be battling coronavirus, the already tight timetable set by the UK now appears incredibly difficult to meet.

Add to this the distance <[link removed]> between UK and EU positions on key subjects such as ‘level playing field’ commitments, the chances of a no-deal Brexit have risen considerably since the coronavirus outbreak began.

Our poll of 2,032 adultsacross the country reveals widespread support for extending the transition period until after the pandemic is overcome, with many supporting an indefinite extension.

It is increasingly becoming undeniable that extension is the only sensible option.

With your help we can continue to influence decision-makers and make their path ahead a little clearer.

Best wishes,
