Hi there, it’s Meghan Meehan-Draper, Executive Director at the DGA. This month has been a whirlwind!

When I heard the news that Governor Tim Walz was Kamala Harris’s VP pick, I was ecstatic! It’s been thrilling to watch Democrats across the country get to know and love Tim. And after he officially became the nominee last week at the DNC, I’m more fired up than ever.

Working with Governor Walz closely as DGA Chair has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience. He was a tireless advocate for electing more Democratic governors across the country and held Republicans accountable for their failed and “weird” agenda, all while helping us shatter fundraising records.

As governor, he has shown the country the power of spending political capital rather than banking it: enshrining reproductive freedom into state law, expanding voting rights, ensuring universal free school meals, and passing paid family and medical leave. It's no wonder Kamala picked him to help her drive our country forward.

He’s not only ready to do the job, but I know he’s going to excel at it. To see a Democratic governor get so much well-deserved attention means the country is recognizing what we at the DGA have always known – Dem Govs get it done!

But the work we do is only possible with the support of folks like you. Team, when Gov. Walz called me following the news of him joining the ticket, one of the things he kept telling me was that he was going to miss being Chair of the DGA. But he emphasized that, no matter what his role was, he would never stop talking about just how important Democratic governors are.

Gov. Walz knows firsthand that Democratic governors are the last line of defense against far-right attacks on our most fundamental rights in the states – and that is why it’s essential that we do everything we can for the next 67 days to help elect Democratic governors in toss-up states like North Carolina and New Hampshire.

But we have a tough fight ahead. MAGA extremists across the country have made it clear that the moment they take office, they’ll strip away those rights and freedoms. That’s why I am reaching out to you personally. As Gov. Walz used to say, DGA contributions are "feel good" contributions because you can feel good about where you're giving.
