I hope you had a good week. I wanted to look back on some of the gatherings I attended and share information about an upcoming event that my office will be hosting. But first, here is an important update concerning my communications with you going forward.

Last Saturday, I spent the day visiting with various community groups. For our first stop, we celebrated Family Day with the North Center Neighbors Association. Next, we visited the Bowmanville Summer Social, hosted by the Bowmanville Community Organization. Finally, we headed to the Greater Rockwell Summer Party at Jacob Playlot Park. Our community groups play an integral role in bringing together the people of our district. Meeting with them provides critical insight into the changes they feel are necessary to make our neighborhoods a better place to live, work, and raise a family. 

On Monday, we celebrated Women’s Equality Day, the anniversary of the enactment of the 19th Amendment. On this day, we honor and celebrate the courageous leaders who fought for the right to vote. We also acknowledge that there is more to do to protect the right to vote and achieve full gender equality, especially for women of color. Here in Congress, I am proud to support the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation that would combat wage discrimination. Specifically, it would help close the wage gap by strengthening the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and ensuring women can challenge pay discrimination and hold employers accountable. This is just one example of the many ways we can end the gender divide and establish a more just society.

3. Don't Miss Our Upcoming Senior Fair!

If you're a senior looking for assistance with federal, state, and local agencies, or interested in a flu and COVID-19 vaccine, make sure to visit our upcoming senior fair! The fair will take place at the Northeast Levy Center on September 17th from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM CT, with vaccinations starting at 9:30 AM CT.
