At our Intellectual Retreat a few weeks ago, we read a marvelous piece Yuval Levin wrote for FIRST THINGS titled “Taking the Long Way.”
Since January, when my colleagues and I decided to initiate a comprehensive redesign of firstthings.com, temptations have abounded to take the short way—to cut corners, to compromise quality, to rush the process.
What motivated us to continue on the long way was the constant reminder of who this project is for. Not for us, the editors and staff of FIRST THINGS, but for you, our readers.
And it is the charitable support of readers like you that is making the dream of a new firstthings.com a reality. In taking the long way, we strive to be good stewards of their generous giving.
With less than a month until the website launch, we stand $27,744 short of fully funding the project.
