This year’s Scorecard tells the story of the entire 131st Legislature – and how lawmakers built on 2023’s momentum to continue to protect the environment and our democracy in Maine in 2024. We include the bills we scored in 2023 – the first half of the 131st Legislature – as well as three new bills from this year that protect our democracy by bringing Maine into the National Popular Vote compact, establish a pathway for funding Maine trails, and restore criminal jurisdiction of tribal courts. The scorecard also tells “the story of the session” with an overview of more than a dozen critical environmental bills.
This year, 86 lawmakers scored 100% on Maine’s Environmental Scorecard, earning the title of Conservation Champion. Unfortunately, 56 policymakers scored ZERO on the Scorecard, voting against bills that would conserve our environment, protect our democracy, and build healthier communities.
