Cutting Property Taxes and Protecting Colorado’s Future: Celebrating Bipartisan Action to Save Coloradans Money by Reducing the Property Tax Rate
Last week, the legislature convened in a special session to help address property tax challenges facing hardworking Coloradans and protect Colorado’s future. This bipartisan effort saves hardworking Coloradans money on property taxes, saves households money on utility bills, makes our small businesses more competitive, and protects funding for our schools.

The bipartisan

HB24B-1001 will save households hundreds of dollars on property taxes, with specific savings based on where you live in Colorado’s over 4,000 local districts, by:

1. Reducing the assessment rate for all residential property from 6.4% to 6.25% unless statewide value growth exceeds 5% from 2024 to 2025, in which case it would decrease to 6.15%.

2. Lowering the assessment rate for schools district mill levies to 7.05 percent from 7.15 percent, unless statewide actual value growth exceeds 5 percent from 2024 to 2025, in which case the rate will decrease to 6.95 percent.

3. Setting the assessment rate for school district mill levies at the 2025 level for all future property tax years. For all district mill levies, most nonresidential classes – except for oil and gas and producing mines – will be reduced from 29 percent to 27 percent.

I plan to sign this bipartisan bill into law once Initiatives 50 and 108 are pulled from the ballot. I look forward to seeing the risky ballot measures pulled down, and to moving forward so that small businesses and homeowners can keep more of their hard-earned money.

I thank our bipartisan legislative leaders for coming together to deliver savings for Coloradans. The First Regular Session of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly will convene on January 8, 2025.

Celebrating Colorado’s Thriving Agriculture Industry at the State Fair in Pueblo

The

Colorado State Fair is a fun, delicious, and exciting event each year and I was thrilled to celebrate Colorado’s hardworking farmers and ranchers and judge the annual Governor’s Plate competition highlighting talented Colorado chefs using Colorado-grown ingredients.

I attended and spoke at the Junior Livestock Auction, showcasing some of Colorado’s talented and hardworking young ranchers. Following the auction, I judged the fourth annual Governor’s Plate competition. The Governor’s Plate elevates Colorado Proud food trucks as they use locally grown and raised products to create new and exciting dishes.

Colorado’s iconic state fair in Pueblo brings together Coloradans from across the state to celebrate the farmers and ranchers who put food on our tables, and power our economy. With live music, thrilling rides, and delicious food, there is something for everyone to love at the state fair. I encourage Coloradans to take a trip to Pueblo to join in the fun now through Monday, September 2.

Welcome Back to School, Colorado’s Parents, Teachers, & Students!

I visited Playcrafter Kids, a Universal Preschool provider in Fort Collins to celebrate the end of the first week back to school with parents and students. As many students finish their first week of school we are reminded why giving all students a head start in education is important for our economy and future.

We also celebrated the start of the second year of Colorado Universal Preschool, which saves families thousands of dollars each year, creates opportunities for all Colorado kids, and gives Colorado students the strongest start possible.

Fort Collins Comic ConI joined fellow Coloradans who happen to be geeks, Star Trek fans, Star Wars lovers, and comic heads at Fort Collins Comic Con. This fun event brings together people of all ages and walks of life to share our common love for all things comics, gaming, movies, characters, and science fiction.

Spirit of JapanI visited Sakura Square during the Spirit of Japan Celebration in Denver, a 3-day festival that celebrates the Japanese community in Colorado. We celebrated the rich history of Colorado’s Japanese community and the strong relationship between Colorado and Japan.

Esports Grand Opening
In Broomfield, I celebrated the grand opening of the Valhallan Esports Training Center. Colorado is an Esports leader, and as a gamer myself, I look forward to seeing Colorado create more opportunities for Esports enthusiasts across the state.
