Thank you so much to everyone who took action in support of the Nonhuman Rights Project during World Elephant Week from August 12th through August 19th! As always, we were blown away by your dedication and generosity.
Because of you, over 5,800 messages were sent to Bronx Zoo Director Jim Breheny calling for transparency about what’s happening with Happy and urging the zoo to free Happy and Patty to an elephant sanctuary (further updates soon). We also raised over $49,000 to help fund our unique litigation, legislation, and education work on behalf of elephants; this includes a small group of donors who collectively matched $18,500 in donations. Your advocacy and financial contributions directly support our efforts to secure elephants’ right to liberty and end elephant captivity, once and for all. Thank you.
Some of our supporters have asked for a link to share the announcement we made on the last day of World Elephant Week: that Colorado’s highest court will hear arguments on Oct. 24th in our elephant rights case on behalf of five elephants deprived of their freedom in the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The fact that the Colorado Supreme Court chose to grant our request for a hearing is another huge sign of the progress we’re making together, John. In the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing more about our clients, what experts are saying about why Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy need to be freed to an elephant sanctuary, and how you can help.
Thank you for everything you do to advance the fight for nonhuman rights!
