2024 AgriVision Award winners announced
Earlier this month at the Indiana State Fair, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture [ [link removed] ]?presented John Baugh, Director of Agricultural Services and Regulations at Purdue University, and Ed Ebert, Senior Director of Market Development for the Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council, with the state?s highest agricultural honor, the AgriVision Award.
Now in its 18th year, the award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the agriculture industry and their communities.

$2 Million provided to Indiana food banks
This month, eleven food banks that feed Hoosiers in need received a combined total of $2 million to support their efforts. According to?Feeding Indiana?s Hungry (FIH) [ [link removed] ], more than 950,000 Hoosiers, including 1 in 5 children, experienced food insecurity in 2022, the most recent data available. This new data represents a 30% increase in food insecurity over 2021.
The funding was provided by the Indiana General Assembly, as part of its biennial budget. The distribution amounts were determined using The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TFAP) fair share percentages for Indiana, which captures poverty and unemployment levels in each county.

103 historic farm families presented Hoosier Homestead
Recognized for their families? longstanding commitment to agriculture, 103 Indiana farm families were presented the?Hoosier Homestead Award [ [link removed] ]?at the Indiana State Fair from?Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director [ [link removed] ]?Don Lamb.
To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for more than 100 consecutive years, and consist of 20 acres or more, or produce more than $1,000 in agricultural products per year.
During the ceremonies, six Indiana farms received the Bicentennial Award for 200 years of continuous ownership: the Thornburg-Caldwell-Slack family from Fayette County, the Hodges family from Morgan County, the Bridges-Royer family from Putnam County, the Dale & Donna Hartwell and Ricky W. Hartwell family from Rush County, the Bass-Rhodes family from Shelby County and the James W. Holmes, Jeffrey W. Holmes, Jason M. Davidson family from Tippecanoe County.

2024 Indiana Agriculture Photo Contest winners announced
Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana State Department of Agriculture announced the winners of the 2024 Indiana Agriculture Photo Contest during the great Indiana State Fair.
The winning photos were chosen from hundreds of entries in the following four categories: Agritourism, Conservation, Faces of Agriculture and On the Farm. Two winners were selected from each category, along with two winners overall. To be considered, the photo had to be taken in the state by an Indiana resident.?

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and Red Gold recently announced the winners of the 2024 Red Gold Stewardship award. Schulte's Produce LLC of Pandora, Ohio was selected as the first-place winner, and Lievens Bros. Farms Inc. of Petersburg, Michigan received second place.
This presentation, now in its 16th year, is a partnership between Red Gold and the ISDA. The award is presented to Red Gold tomato growers who value improving soil health and water quality on their operations.

ISDA partners with Food Export-Midwest to deliver export-related programs and services to Indiana companies seeking to start or expand their export sales.?Food Export-Midwest hosts events throughout the year to connect U.S. suppliers with qualified international buyers, and their 2025 calendar is now available. Buyers Missions [ [link removed] ] are Food Export-Midwest?s most popular in-person events because they are a low-cost, low-risk way to explore exporting your products to new markets without leaving the U.S. For $250, you meet one-on-one with qualified international buyers from several different countries that are interested in U.S. products. The remaining Buyers Missions in 2024 are:

During a Focused Trade Mission [ [link removed] ], businesses travel to international markets and meet one-on-one with qualified buyers, participate in tours of local supermarkets and food service providers and receive a market analysis briefing from the Food Export in-market representative.
