Meet the Candidate
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell came to the U.S. from South America at a young age with her mom and sisters, fleeing violence and searching for a better life.
While her mother worked double shifts as a home healthcare provider, Debbie worked at a doughnut shop to help her family make ends meet. After working her way through high school and college, Debbie worked for Florida International University’s Colleges of Health and Medicine. While at FIU, Debbie helped lead a program to expand access to affordable healthcare to more Floridians.
Serving in Congress, Debbie fought to expand opportunity for every American. Debbie wrote the bill to expand seniors’ Medicare Advantage coverage, and she worked with Republicans to provide economic relief to families and small businesses, and secured $200 million for Everglades restoration. When Debbie was 24, she tragically lost her father to gun violence, and she has been a lifelong advocate for reducing crime and keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals.
NOW, DEBBIE IS RUNNING FOR THE U.S. SENATE BECAUSE OUR DEMOCRACY, OUR ECONOMY AND OUR RIGHTS ARE ALL ON THE LINE — AND SENATOR RICK SCOTT HAS FAILED FLORIDIANS.
Florida is one of the least affordable states in the nation, but Senator Rick Scott wants to raise taxes on our families and end Social Security and Medicare coverage. As someone who takes care of her elderly mother, Debbie will always fight to protect Medicare, Social Security and access to quality, affordable healthcare.
And Rick Scott has pushed for a nationwide abortion ban, working to take the rights away of women and their families.
Join our canvassing team to knock on Democrats' doors in Indian River County. We will be notify voters of changes to vote-by-mail and share candidate and ballot measure information. If you are a Spanish speaker we need your help too. No experience is necessary and training is provided.

2024 Ballot Measures
Ballot measure 2 would provide a state constitutional right to hunt and fish and declare that hunting and fishing are the preferred means for "responsibly managing and controlling fish and wildlife" and "shall be preserved forever as a public right."
Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board: "This amendment could also have a significant impact on the state’s ability to manage public lands against wildfires and flooding. Some analysts have suggested that this amendment could even trump the rights of private property owners to restrict hunting on their own land. It could certainly tie the hands of future lawmakers to respond to currently unforeseen environmental consequences of hunting, such as Florida’s ban on gill-net fishing or its most recent laws against the gruesome “Internet hunt” sites that allow online users to fire real guns, loaded with real ammunition, at Florida wildlife using remote control and webcams— a practice so dangerous and wasteful that it’s banned in 42 states. That’s why this amendment seems so scary. Nobody can say exactly what it could do, or how much harm it could cause. Meanwhile, the only arguments in its favor seem to rest on the fallacy that hunting and fishing in Florida are under attack. So what’s the point of putting it on the ballot? The best argument we can see for this stinker is that it’s bait — intended to draw out low-information, far-right voters who can be easily swindled into believing that their rights are somehow under attack and who will, presumably, be voting conservative across the rest of the ballot."
Yes on 4 is looking for volunteers to participate in their weekly phone banks every Thursday 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. EST. Yes on 4 yard signs and other merchandise is now available to order HERE.
Throughout his many years as a self-serving politician, Rick Scott has been defined by his extreme and anti-freedom agenda.
“Rick Scott has made it clear he believes in breaking the promise of a secure retirement for Florida’s seniors, that workers should pay higher taxes while his wealthy, corporate elite donors get handouts, and that politicians should interfere with the private medical decisions of patients, including when it comes to abortion care, access to contraception, and IVF. There is no freedom for hardworking Floridians and seniors that Rick Scott won’t put under attack if he is reelected and that is why voters will retire him from office this fall." - Scott Watch Communications Director Anders Croy
