Last night, Vice-President Kamala Harris delivered another strong performance, doing exactly what she needed to do to keep the momentum in her first interview since accepting the Democratic nomination. Last week, Michelle Obama spoke compellingly about the importance of acting--do something--over the next 67 days to win on November 5th. I ask you to write postcards, door knock, and/or contribute to help write the next chapter of our country's history. Today, I will talk about the Presidency and the House races in Virginia. Next week, the Senate. (My report on County Board work is drafted and coming, but I like to not email you too frequently in a week and August has been very busy.)
Vice President Kamala Harris delivered in her critical speech on Thursday.
To win the Presidency, there are three things you can do: (1) voter contact by traveling to a swing state to canvass or phone calls, (2) donate, or (3) write postcards. Traveling is not likely for many of us. Donating, even though many have, is critical. I believe we must align our values with our budgets in this year's election, more than ever. Postcards are the likely best answer for most of us, since I believe the effectiveness of phone calls is limited. So....

Arlington Blue Families is working to write 150,000 postcards to voters in swing states to turn out the vote through Vote Forward. So far, they have written 70,000. In Virginia, there are 3 Congressional races that will help determine whether Democrats take the House of Representatives. In each race we can make a difference for Kamala Harris and Tim Kaine while we are working to win the House. (I will write over the coming 2 weeks about the Senate.)
Mr. Vindman on the right, with his twin brother. Mr. Vindman was a Deputy National Security Advisor when President Trump made his famous phone call regarding Ukraine.
The first, is the seat currently occupied by Abigail Spanberger. Eugene Vindman, the Ukrainian American who reported President Trump's phone call to White House lawyers, is our candidate. The second race is Jennifer Wexton's seat. Suhas Subramanyam, a former Obama Administration employee, worked very hard to win the primary, and will be an outstanding Representative if we can win this D+5 District, one of the narrowest margin seats in Virginia. Mr. Subramanyam needs us to donate--he is working hard but does not yet have the resources he needs to win. The third seat, and the most difficult to win, is the seat that Elaine Luria represented until the 2022 election. Our candidate is Missy Coater Smasal, a Navy Veteran and former small business owner who is running in a District Elaine Luria lost by just under 10,000 votes out of 296,000 votes cast. Per the Washington Post, the district is about as middle of the road as a Congressional District can be. I believe that if we win Missy's race, we will take back the House of Representatives. I'll conclude with links to the major speeches from Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and Michelle Obama, the speeches I found most compelling from the DNC. Before I do, I will simply say this: the stakes could not be greater. I believe we will each want to know we have done all we can to win this election. Will we each be able to say we have? Do something. Do more. Again and again and again. Over the next 67 days. For the country we want to be, for our children, and for their children.
