John,

Last August, Guillermo "Memo" Garcia was injured in a mass shooting at a shopping center in El Paso, Texas, where 22 people were murdered – and we were absolutely heartbroken to hear that, after nearly nine months in the hospital, he died from his injuries on Saturday.

Guillermo was a beloved youth soccer coach known by all as "Tank." He and his wife had been raising money for their daughter's soccer team that morning in August when the gunman opened fire. As soon as Guillermo heard gunshots, he grabbed his wife and 6-year-old son and sheltered them with his body – sacrificing his own life to protect his family.

Our hearts ache for his wife and his children; for the families of the 22 other people who were murdered in this horrific shooting; and for the entire community of El Paso that has been forever changed by this tragedy. We know all too well what it's like to get the devastating news that your loved one is never coming home.

That's why today, we need to send love from the entire Sandy Hook Promise community to the Garcia family – as well as a promise that we will do everything we can to prevent the next tragedy. Will you join us by signing our card now?

Thank you so much for adding your name – and for all you do to help us save lives from gun violence.
