### **Federal Overreach: Courts Side With Abortion Industry Against Pro-Life State**
Yesterday, the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals handed down a disappointing yet unsurprising verdict against Tennessee's efforts to protect life. In a clear instance of judicial activism, the court ruled that the Volunteer State may not receive crucial healthcare funding unless it complies with radical pro-abortion regulations imposed by the Biden Administration.
At issue here is the so-called "Title X" fund, established in 1970 to support vital healthcare programs for vulnerable populations – specifically low-income women, predominantly minorities. Since then, Tennessee has received approximately $7.1 million yearly to operate these indispensable initiatives. Now, however, Washington bureaucrats seek to strong-arm Tennessee into betraying its commitment to protecting human dignity and upholding its legislation banning most forms of abortion.
This controversy began last May when Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti contested an arbitrary decree issued by the Obama-appointee Secretary Xavier Becerra mandating participating clinics to inform patients about terminating pregnancies upon demand. AG Skrmetti rightly contended this directive flagrantly contradicts both his state's sovereignty and recent landmark SCOTUS decisions affirming individual jurisdictions can set their respective policies regarding terminations within constitutional bounds.
Disregarding well-established precedent, three ideologically slanted judges dismissed Tennessee's plea, citing non-compliance grounds based solely on refusing to promote or facilitate access to procedures deemed morally reprehensible according to prevailing moral consensus within the Volunteer State borders.
