I'm fired up after reading your responses to the survey I sent you last week.

Julie Oliver for Congress

Team,

Last week, I asked you to share what issues are most important to you and how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting you and your family. I'm fired up after reading your responses. But before I dig into a recap of what you had to say, I have to ask: Will you help this campaign reach our $25,000 end-of-month goal with a donation today?

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting us all in ways big and small. Many of you are simply feeling anxious and worried. Some of you have lost loved ones to this deadly disease. A few of you are still waiting for unemployment checks to arrive or digging into savings to make the rent in two days — if you have savings at all.

Two themes, in particular, were woven through your answers to my questions: Our systems are failing us, and the people tasked with representing us are out of touch with what we need. The way forward is clear based on what issues matter most to you all:

  1. Every single person in this country should be able to see a doctor and get the care they need to be well and to live to their full potential. It makes no sense for us to continue to allow for-profit insurance companies to create artificially small risk pools that enable them to drive up costs for everyone, and make billions in profit from human suffering. We need Medicare for All.

  2. If we're going to restore our democracy and support people through this unprecedented economic and public health crisis, we have to end the corrupting influence of big money on our politics. Congress should work to bail out people, not corporations. Corporate donors should not dictate what ends up in the next COVID-19 relief package — or any piece of policy, for that matter.

  3. COVID-19 is a clear lesson on why we must respond to the *other* existential threat this country and our planet is facing — catastrophic climate change. If we cannot find the courage to meet this crisis at the scale required, we will be facing resource scarcity, regional instability, crop failures, livestock deaths, humanitarian crises driving mass migration, and armed conflict.

I want you to know that I'm going to do everything in my power to flip this seat so we can move forward together on these priorities. Knowing that you all are working with me and taking valuable time out of your day to share your thoughts makes that goal attainable.

If you can afford it at this time, please make a contribution toward tomorrow's fundraising deadline so we can keep growing this grassroots campaign in the months ahead.

Thank you for being here, and for all that you do, even in these difficult times. I'm so grateful.
