New sage grouse permit requirement for the 2024 hunting season

Starting this year, all licensed sage grouse hunters will be required to carry a free, annual sage grouse hunting permit. This new regulation aims to enhance the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s efforts to survey sage grouse hunters and gather valuable data on their hunting experiences.

Your hunting calendar: 

October 31 – Deadline to apply for preference points.

January 31 – Deadline to apply for 2025 Super Tag.

Fire safety is a must this time of year

It has been a dry and hot summer across most of Wyoming. As temperatures rise, vegetation begins to dry, creating fuels that can create high fire dangers. To help protect wildlife habitat and other public lands, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department implements fire restrictions on department-managed properties where people camp and recreate.

Be bear aware when archery hunting

Months of planning have passed and it’s finally hunting season for some. But before you hit the trail this fall, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department wants to remind people who recreate in bear country to take safety precautions and be on the lookout for bears — and signs of bears.
