Beach bonfires and BBQing at the park are iconic San Diego experiences. Under my leadership, City Parks and Rec posted new signage with clear and consistent guidance. At our parks, dump those hot coals in the concrete bins, and on our beaches, wood-burning fires only in city concrete fire rings. Let’s work together so everyone can enjoy our parks and beaches safely.

SWEARING-IN FIRE CHIEF LOGAN

Our City turned another chapter in public safety with the swearing-in of Fire Chief Robert Logan II. As the 19th Chief, he picks up where Chief Stowell served with distinction. Fire Chief Logan’s appointment occurred 73 years after the first San Diego Black firefighter, Benny Holman, was integrated into a City of San Diego fire station. During the ceremony, Benny Holman was given the honor of pinning Chief Logan. Congratulations to our new Fire Chief and best wishes to former Chief Stowell on his well-deserved retirement!
