Too many in Congress claim progressive values, but their actions—taking money from AIPAC—and their silence on horrors in Gaza perpetuated by Israel speak louder than words.

When Israel's finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, suggested it would be "just and moral" to starve two million Gaza residents, he was voicing a mindset that has led to the unspeakable horrors unfolding before our eyes.

Since October 7, more than 40,000 Palestinians, including 16,000 children, have been killed. The suffering doesn’t stop there—over 100,000 have been injured, journalists and aid workers have been murdered, and famine is now a grim reality in Gaza.

This isn't an isolated act by a rogue minister; it is the policy of a government that flouts international law and has been accused by the International Court of Justice of committing genocide. This government, led by Prime Minister Netanyahu, not only refuses a ceasefire but also vehemently opposes the very existence of a Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, Biden and Democrats in Congress do little more than wring their hands, sending U.S. arms to fuel the carnage under the guise of "supporting Israel's right to defend itself." These are not the actions of a government committed to peace; they are the actions of one complicit in war crimes.

We have a choice. We can continue to elect politicians who are bought and paid for by Israel's lobby, or we can stand up for justice, peace, and human dignity. Together, we can challenge the status quo, ending U.S. complicity in these atrocities and advocating for a just peace for all peoples in the region.
