President's Message

NASN continues to look to inclusivity as a benchmark in our organization. The introduction of the Diversity in School Nursing Scholarship, awarded for the first time this year, is intended to provide financial support for registered nurses employed in schools from historically underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds to pursue advanced education in health-related sciences.

You can learn more about all the NASN scholarships and grants currently open for applicants.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) remains unwavering as we strive to integrate DEI principles into every aspect of our work. Again, this year, NASN requires NASN annual conference abstract submissions to address the impact or reflection of DEI relating to the presentation topic.

Our ongoing efforts and goals are shaping NASN into an even stronger and more inclusive organization.

Managing Chronic Health Conditions

The Need for Undesignated Glucagon in All Schools

Having lifesaving medication is an issue of equity. Almost all states have laws that allow for undesignated (stock) epinephrine in schools, and many allow for undesignated albuterol; however, only seven have undesignated glucagon.

Beyond Type 1 recently sat down with Jennifer Jacobs, a seasoned school nurse and Illinois Association of School Nurses and NASN member, to discuss hypoglycemia management and treatment in schools and her advocacy and impact on undesignated glucagon legislation to enhance student safety.
