Following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, team Stein/Ware formally requested Secret Service protection – last week, we were denied that protection without explanation.

Of course, we weren’t too surprised by the decision. During this election cycle we’ve watched the anti-Democratic Party pull out all the stops to sabotage this people-powered campaign – from forcing us to fight frivolous lawsuits to reverse ballot access success, to raiding matching funds in order to delay the over $300,000 that Jill qualified for during a crucial moment for her ballot access efforts (ironically, much of the money they raided from that fund was appropriated for Secret Service protection.)

Most disturbingly, high-ranking officials in the anti-Democratic Party have continued to slander Jill by smearing her as “Putin’s puppet” and a “Russian asset” – even though the Senate Intelligence Committee investigated and cleared Jill of any wrongdoing years ago. They don’t care; we’re taking on the empire and they’re lashing out in every way possible. Including scurrilous charges of treason from high-profile party officials like DNC Chair, Jamie Harrison.

But we were never counting on the government to do the right thing - and committed supporters from frontline communities have stepped up to the plate to provide protection. They’ve been putting themselves on the line for Jill and Butch, and as we get closer to the election, we need to expand the team and make sure we can pay these heroes what they deserve.

Jill and Butch are the only candidates with a path to the White House who are anti-genocide, pro-worker, and pro-planet. This has the gatekeepers of the deadly status quo scared; so scared that they’re willing to tell whatever lies they believe will stop our momentum, even if these lies put Jill and Butch in danger.
