Friend,
This past week, I’ve been in Taiwan laying out what America must do to deter China’s aggression.
Taiwan is a free country that wants to defend itself, but we must partner to protect the free world. That includes stopping China's bullying at the UN, protecting our supply chains from China, and making sure Taiwan has the weapons and training they need to deter China.
At the UN, I made clear that I would have the backs of America’s friends—and call out our enemies.
I backed Israel, Ukraine, and many others. When it came to Taiwan, I was shocked to find out that they aren’t even allowed in the building. China has bullied its way into keeping Taiwan out of the UN.
We fought hard to change this. It resulted in a Chinese temper tantrum.
China’s treatment of Taiwan hurts the whole world. In late 2019, Taiwan warned the World Health Organization about a virus coming out of China. But the WHO doesn’t recognize Taiwan, so they downplayed the threat until it was too late, and millions died.
If China didn’t block Taiwan from WHO membership, it would have saved lives. And fewer countries would have crippled their economies and curtailed their people’s freedom.
Backing Taiwan and standing up to China’s aggression has never been more important.
If China invades Taiwan, they won’t stop there. That’s a dangerous reality for the West. The Communist Party will do whatever it takes to overcome the United States to become the world’s superpower.
We can still prevent that future and keep the peace by rebuilding our strength and our resolve.
