Dear friends,
Their names were Ali Taimeh and Ibrahim Muhareb, Win Htut Oo and Htet Myat Thu, Hero Bahaden and Gülistan Tara, and Ryan Evans. They were journalists or media professionals who worked in Gaza, Myanmar, Kurdistan and Ukraine. What did they have in common? They were all killed in the course of their media work in the past two weeks.
These sad examples illustrate the dangers that journalists around the world face every day in their quest to get reliable information where it can be found, on the field. Helping them is at the heart of RSF’s mission. We insure reporters working on assignment in high-risk areas and we lend them helmets and bulletproof vests. We take legal actions to assist journalists when they are victims of violations, and we help with their asylum applications when they are forced to flee abroad. RSF also trains journalists in physical and digital security methods and provides them with psychological support.
In the course of the past five years, Reporters Without Borders has helped more than 12,000 journalists in the field. The support we provide them on a daily basis and all our other work is made possible by donations. That is why I am asking you, starting today, to support our work with a donation, if you can. Every donation counts. Thank you for your support.
