Hey Friend, did you know that you could get paid through Medicaid for taking care of your  aging family members?

We all know how hard it is to support our parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles as they get older. It’s sad to see our loved ones struggle, and it’s hard to juggle caregiving while we’re also trying to work.

That’s why Medicaid pays family members for supporting seniors at home. Follow this link to learn more about becoming a paid caretaker through Medicaid.

How does it work?

First, the senior must be on Medicaid and must select you as their caregiver. Then, the senior can sign you up to be paid as a caregiver through his or her state Medicaid program. Every state has different rules about who can be paid and how much. Learn more about eligibility here.

How does this help elders?

Nursing homes are expensive and not right for everyone. Paying family members to help support seniors  makes it financially possible for some families to make the choice to care for their family member at home instead.

How much does Medicaid pay caregivers?

Different states pay different amounts. Typically, caregivers earn about 75% of the average wage for care workers in the state (for example, if the typical wage in Alabama for elder care workers were $13 per hour, Medicaid would pay around $9.75 per hour).

Where do I sign up?

Talk to your local Medicaid office about what forms you need to fill out in your state. Find the contact for your Medicaid office here.

It’s tough enough to make ends meet. Adding a loved one’s health complications on top of that makes it even harder. So if you’re trying to juggle everything for a loved one on Medicaid, consider signing up to become a paid caregiver today.
