WATCH DEFENDERS OF THE HIDDEN, WILDAID’S NEW DOCUSERIES SPOTLIGHTING THE ENDANGERED CHINESE PANGOLIN
Last month in Beijing, WildAid, the China Wildlife Conservation Association, and Youku jointly hosted the premiere of our pangolin conservation documentary series Defenders of the Hidden.
This two-part docuseries follows actor and WildAid ambassador Wang Yibo's journey in search of the Chinese pangolin. Through real-life stories told by scientists, forest rangers, community residents, conservation organizations, and science education workers he meets along the way, we learn of the efforts, challenges, and achievements of these ordinary heroes seeking to save the critically endangered pangolin.
In the month since its release, we’re thrilled to share that Defenders of the Hidden has become the highest-rated documentary on Youku, one of China’s top streaming platforms!
A huge thank you to our supporters and to Wang Yibo and his incredible fans for making this success possible and for helping bring much-needed awareness to pangolins.
THE WAY YOU DO YOUR LAUNDRY CAN HELP FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is quickly becoming the number one threat to elephants and all wildlife across the globe.
To help protect them from this growing danger, on World Elephant Day, we asked you all to commit to a simple carbon-saving action: wash your clothes in cold water for one month. This helps your clothes last longer AND reduces your carbon emissions by 133 pounds per month.
In just over two weeks, more than 300 people have made this promise to protect our planet’s wildlife, keeping an estimated 18,892 pounds of carbon out of the atmosphere so far!
Individual actions, like using cold water for laundry, add up in the fight against climate change. In fact, by 2050, 40 to 70% of all carbon emissions can be eliminated through demand-side actions like consumer behavior change and individual emissions reductions. That means you and me taking action to help mitigate climate change.
If you haven’t taken the Cold Water Pledge yet, it’s not too late! Join this incredible community of people who share your commitment to safeguarding vulnerable wildlife and their habitats.
Together, we can be a force for positive change.
PROTECTING THE MAGIC OF MANGROVES
Mangrove forests are essential to the survival of life on land and at sea. These twisted, tropical trees are home to roughly one-third of all marine species, and their root systems provide vital nurseries and feeding grounds for wildlife including sharks, manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, rays, reptiles, and birds. Plus, mangroves sequester more carbon per acre than any other habitat on Earth.
In Coastal Ecuador, home to the largest mangrove forest in the South Pacific, a network of local fishers and coastal communities have become frontline defenders of these crucial habitats. However, their efforts are not without risk. The mangroves, and the communities that depend on them, are under constant threat from illegal logging, large-scale shrimp farming, and drug traffickers who use the mangrove channels to smuggle goods.
Learn more about these local heroes and how WildAid is supporting their efforts to protect the mangrove forests and the hundreds of species that call them home.
