ICYMI: Watch Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan's DNC speech Monday in Chicago

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, who co-chaired the Democratic National Convention last Monday night, was one of the first speakers to open the proceedings in Chicago.
During the event, Flanagan took a moment to remind the audience about the former President Donald Trump's response to the COVID crisis, including her personal experience with her brother dying in Tennessee at a time when they weren't allowed contact with COVID patients.

Women tell their abortion, pregnancy and miscarriage stories at the first post-Roe DNC

Three women — Amanda Zurawski, Kaitlyn Joshua and Hadley Duvall — spoke about their experiences with abortion, miscarriage and pregnancy on the opening night of Democratic National Convention.
All three speakers have emerged as key surrogates for the Democratic Party, campaigning in support of Vice President Kamala Harris. Zurawski’s husband Josh, who has also campaigned for Harris, spoke alongside her.
Zurawski, who rose to prominence after suing the state of Texas over its abortion ban and was a featured speaker at Women Winning’s 2024 Annual Luncheon, was a guest at President Joe Biden’s February 2023 State of the Union address; she also shared her experience in an April ad on behalf of what was then the campaign to re-elect Biden. Joshua, of Louisiana, has been a regular presence at Harris campaign events and appeared in a June ad for the Democratic presidential campaign. Duvall, a Kentucky resident, appeared in a campaign spot for Gov. Andy Beshear last year, and in a July ad backing Biden.
“A second Trump term would rip away even more of our rights: passing a national abortion ban, letting states monitor pregnancies and prosecute doctors, restricting birth control and fertility treatments,” Zurawski said on Monday night. “We cannot let that happen. We need to vote as if lives depend on it — because they do.

Gwen Walz is sharing her fertility struggles for the first time

In the midst of one the most challenging moments of her life, Gwen Walz—the wife of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz—didn’t turn to her closest family or friends. No matter how much she loved them, she just couldn’t bring herself to share the full details of her fertility struggles, the daily reality of what trying to conceive looked like, the private agony of what it entailed.
“Our fertility journey was an incredibly personal and difficult experience,” she shares with Glamour, going into depth for the first time about her path to parenthood. “Like so many who have experienced these challenges, we kept it largely to ourselves at the time.”
Instead, it was a neighbor—a nurse—who would come around to help “with the shots I needed as part of the IUI process.” A teacher, Walz would “rush home from school,” her neighbor would come over, “and she would give me the shots to ensure we stayed on track.”
