This summer, weeks-long student-led protests swept across Bangladesh after years of human rights violations and autocracy. The protesters were met with deadly force by the state police and the military, and the violence took the lives of hundreds, mainly young people, and was followed by the sudden resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
While it has recently faced some of its darkest days, Bangladesh is poised to enter a period of optimism, reinvention, and the rebuilding of national fervor for a democratic future. The journey won't be easy, and will take time, but the country could take an encouraging step toward equality and justice after many bleak years.
