When I watched Kamala Harris’s speech accepting the Democratic nomination, I was struck by a few things: The incredible energy and excitement people are feeling about this election over the last few weeks — after months of hearing mostly dread and worry from folks in our community. Truly massive stakes Vice President Harris laid out when it comes to our freedom — our freedom to decide for ourselves what when we start a family, vote in free and fair elections, and, no matter who we are or where we come from, build a great life for ourselves. I was struck by Vice President Harris’s love of our nation and the outpouring of patriotism from the thousands of Democrats witnessing her speech. Most of all, I was struck by the fact that, for all the (sometimes fair) criticism that Democrats spend too much time just talking about Trump, our party today is unified around a positive, inspiring vision for the future. Our job now is to make that positive, hopeful case to the voters every single day between now and Nov. 5 — especially here in Oregon’s Sixth District, where I’m running in one of the nation’s closest and most pivotal House races.
