John,As we get closer to November, Project 2025 is becoming more and more well-known by voters as the MAGA blueprint for a second term of Donald Trump.

The focus has been on the large-scale executive branch overhauls that would enable a full-on assault on our democracy, including curbing access to abortion, reshaping the census, and limiting our right to vote.

It’s not wrong to be talking about the dangers of Project 2025 in the Oval Office: The authors wrote a similar proposal for when Donald Trump first took office in 2017, and they brag that he “embraced nearly two-thirds of the policy recommendations ” in just his first year in office.

It’s terrifying. But there’s another — maybe even tougher — truth here: It’s not just Donald Trump we need to be worried about.

Even if Donald Trump can’t make it back to the Oval Office, the authors and supporters of Project 2025 are still going to do everything they can to implement these types of policies at the state level.
