Donald Trump is sinking -- and his Republican allies are afraid he's taking the Senate with him.

That's the new New York Times' story that covered how President Trump's "erratic handling of the coronavirus outbreak, the worsening economy, and a cascade of ominous public and private polling have Republicans increasingly nervous" -- and they should be.

Americans have known all along that this is not a president equipped to handle a national crisis, and they've known all along that Republicans like Mitch McConnell were playing a dangerous game of trying to get what they want from a president, not worrying about the damage he's doing to the country.

Democrats are outraising Republicans right now, but Donald Trump has millions (and millions, and millions) of dollars in the bank ready to spend when it counts.

So while it seems obvious now that Democrats have the best path forward for our country, we need to have the funds to remind them of that this summer and fall -- when it counts. Donald Trump is sitting on his millions before he funnels it into down-ballot races later this year, and we have to be ready when he does.

We're in a dead heat with Republican opponents in Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, and Maine -- if we pick up those seats, we'll win back the Senate. But it's still early, and plenty can happen: Let's be prepared for whatever comes.
