Hi Friend,
As the summer winds
down and
Labor Day
weekend approaches, we hope
you are planning some relaxation and fun with family and
friends. Labor
Day is an
opportunity to celebrate the work that you do as a dedicated member of your community,
reflect on your hard work, and appreciate those who constantly strive to make our lives better.
With this weekend marking the
unofficial end of summer, the roads may be busier than usual, making it critical to remain vigilant and
safe, obeying
the rules of the road.
Over the
Labor Day holiday weekend in 2022 (most recent data available), 490 people were killed on
our nation’s roadways, including 190 people (39%) in drunk driving fatal
crashes.
Drunk driving is a choice, and the injuries and fatalities
that are the result of these actions are 100%
preventable.
However you are soaking up the last days of summer, please
remember to do so safely, responsibly, and using these
tips:
|
If
you are heading
out this weekend and alcohol is being served, plan for a safe ride home.
Schedule a rideshare in
advance, appoint a designated driver, volunteer to be the designated
driver, or take
public transportation. In addition to making plans for yourself,
don’t
let impaired friends
get behind the wheel,
either.

Before your first sip, download and use the Virtual
Bar to understand how alcohol will affect your
BAC.
Not every drink contains the same amount of alcohol, so make
sure you know how much you’re drinking. A standard drink—whether it’s
a 12 oz beer, a cocktail containing 1.5 oz of spirits, or a 5 oz glass
of wine—contains the same amount of alcohol.

Parents, emphasize the importance of
safety to your teen drivers. Always model responsible behaviors, and
talk to them about values, expectations and ways to stay safe. And
don't give underage drinking an excuse. Never supply alcohol to anyone
under the legal drinking age. It's illegal, unsafe, and
irresponsible.

Thank you for being committed
to ending drunk
driving this
summer and
beyond.
From all of us at Responsibility.org,
have a relaxing
and rewarding Labor Day! And for all those who do not have this day off,
thank you for all you do to keep our nation moving forward.
