John, the deadline is approaching to make twice the
difference

John,
In a crisis, animals are especially vulnerable to neglect and abuse. That’s why
we launched our Anti-Cruelty Campaign this month and it’s why I’m urging you to join the fight against cruelty with your gift today
[[link removed]] .
[[link removed]] Every gift made by April 30 will be matched, up to a total of $75,000, to
ensure that even in these tough times, we will be here fighting for animals.
Animals like a young pup named Bella who was seized as part of a cruelty
investigation in California.
Bella’s alleged abuser jumped bail, leaving Bella to wait in the county kennel
for months. There was no one to speak for Bella — no one with the experience to
know that Bella had legal options to get her out of lockup.
[[link removed]] Fortunately, a group of dog rescuers contacted the Animal Legal Defense Fund. We swiftly arranged to get Bella released to a foster home, and then adopted
into a permanent home. But by then, she had spent 10 unnecessary months just
waiting and suffering the decline dogs in long-term lockup experience.
If California had a Courtroom Animal Advocate Program (CAAP), Bella would have
had an advocate attached to her case that would have been able to use the law to
get Bella into a better situation as soon as the defendant jumped bail — not 10
months later!
Cases like Bella’s are why we need you to join us with your strongest membership
gift today, which will make twice the difference in our fight to give animals
the powerful legal voice they need.
[[link removed]] We’re fighting for CAAP laws in California and other states across the country
— to help give animal victims, like Bella, a dedicated advocate and a voice in
the courtroom.
Bella was lucky. We found her the loving home she deserved. But for some
animals, it’s too late. By the time we were contacted to help, the district
attorney had decided Bella’s case wasn’t worth pursuing as the defendant had
jumped bail and failed to show up to court. What would have happened to Bella had we not been contacted to help?
I don’t have the answer. And that’s why we need strong, comprehensive laws that
protect animals’ lives and interests. We must ensure that animals are not forgotten — in this crisis and beyond.
Remember, all gifts made by April 30 will be doubled. Your gift will help us
fight for animals, always.
