Friends, In King County, it can often feel like we are constantly moving in the wrong direction. It seems as if we consistently try to make up for bad policy that endangers public safety with simply more bad policy. It feels like politicians will always bow down to radical activists in their ongoing attempts to defund, disarm, and disparage law enforcement. But today, I am excited to report a fantastic change in the trajectory of our county. Yesterday, my legislation to keep the Juvenile Detention Center open and improve it was passed by the King County Council in a 8-0 vote! THIS IS HUGE!  As you know, radical Seattle politicians have been attempting to enact a dangerous plan that would close King County’s only youth detention center and place violent criminals in unsecured respite homes in neighborhoods across our community. This misguided effort has come at the same time that juvenile crime has risen dramatically, with youth violent felony filings up 146% since 2021. Yesterday, we put a firm stop to this ill-conceived plan.
