War, hunger, poverty, and disasters are devastating the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. Here are updates on emergencies that Mercy Corps is responding to:
A recent United Nations-backed report confirmed famine in parts of North Darfur. Over recent months, conflict spiraled in the state and drove an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 people fleeing to Zamzam camp in North Darfur, bringing the total population of the camp to over half a million. The camp’s residents are among the more than 25 million people across Sudan who are now experiencing severe food shortages that could lead to malnutrition and death.

Mercy Corps is actively responding to the hunger crisis in Sudan, providing immediate support including cash aid to internally displaced people to help them buy essentials like food, water, medicine, and hygiene supplies.

Intensified airstrikes, including in areas previously designated as "humanitarian zones," have resulted in mass civilian deaths and further shrinking space to deliver life-saving supplies. Civilians have been given insufficient time to flee, and there is nowhere safe to go.

Now families in Gaza face yet another threat: The World Health Organization recently released a report showing a high risk of the polio virus spreading across Gaza after traces were detected in six wastewater samples — tens of thousands of children under age five are now at risk of contracting polio.

Your support helps prepare our teams around the world so they can jump into action when emergencies like famine in Sudan and war in Gaza put lives on the line. Please make your gift to the Humanitarian Response Fund today.

Sincerely,
