Dear Liberty Activist,
Click here to tell the states to reopen America now!
As the nation continues to flatten the coronavirus curve, many governors have begun implementing plans to reopen all or part of their local economies, while others are continuing to place an emphasis on lockdowns and strict social distancing policies. What hasn’t been taken into consideration by many of these leaders is the fact that most of these lockdown policies will result in sharp increases in poverty, increased suicides, depression, substance abuse and domestic violence. In other words, as President Trump has warned, the cure may be worse than the virus itself.
During the Great Recession of the late 2000s, upwards of 70,000 Americans annually overdosed on opioids. The 2008 Recession also saw 46,000 Americans lose their lives to suicide due to the overall effects of unemployment and poverty.
And perhaps most shockingly, a recent U.N. study estimates that hundreds of thousands of children will die due to the increased poverty created by this economic shutdown.
When a record smashing 26 million Americans file for unemployment in just five weeks with no end in sight, the personal and national devastation wrought by the social distancing cure is not sustainable. The President and our nation’s governors must act immediately to restore a greater balance of priorities.
You know what to do! Let’s get
on over to ReopenAmericaNow.org and
urge the states to reopen their economies before it is too late!
President Donald Trump took a great step forward in providing guidance on
reopening America state by state and, when necessary, county by county. We
expect the President will continue to provide the best ideas and information
available on ways private businesses can meet the needs of their employees and
customers in these unprecedented times.
One relatively undiscussed result of the private sector shutdown is that local,
state and federal governments will all see dramatic revenue losses from staying
shut down too long at a time when their expenditures are increased. Recognizing
this early, if states and local governments are unwilling to lay off
non-essential government employees before the situation becomes critical, then
a plan to safely and aggressively reopen is the only alternative.
We must reopen the economy as safely and quickly as possible to keep America working. Let’s keep fighting!
