Government shutdown clock:
█████████████████████
If Congress does not pass a budget bill or continuing resolution by Sunday, September 30, parts of the government will shut down.
House Republicans are demanding poison pills based on lies
and threatening to shut down the government to get them.
The federal government’s current fiscal year ends September 30 ([link removed]) , so it’s yet again time for a budget fight.
MAGA Republicans are of course trying to extort dangerous concessions out of the process. Their demands this time around are especially egregious—they’re trying to add a bill that imposes unnecessary, burdensome hurdles on voters in order to suppress the vote in this critical election. The White House has said that they oppose the bill ([link removed]) and even Senate Minority Leader McConnell does as well, yet their shenanigans threaten to shut down the government.
Congress will be back in session on Monday, September 9, so we will keep you updated. But our plan is the same as always: tell our Members of Congress to hold steady and refuse to allow any MAGA poison pills to creep into government funding bills.

You should do these things to protect yourself and your family from COVID-19 as we head into fall
------------------------------------------------------------
As 2024 rolls on and 2025 approaches, it’s important to keep up our protections against COVID-19, which is still making us sick and still disabling people with long COVID ([link removed]) .
* Wear a mask: San Francisco’s Department of Public Health has encouraged residents to wear masks in crowded indoor spaces ([link removed]) , as have other public health authorities such as Contra Costa County’s ([link removed]) .
* Get this year’s vaccine: New Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are available now. You can make an appointment at your local pharmacy. No word yet on an updated Novavax; the company has one, but it hasn’t yet been cleared by the FDA.
* Get more rapid tests: The Biden-Harris administration is bringing back COVIDTests.gov at the end of September. One month from now, you’ll be able to order four more rapid tests to your home address.
COVID-19 is a part of our present reality and will be for the foreseeable future. We can maintain healthy, full lives by acting accordingly.
