Washington, DC - OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates will be postponing the 47th Annual OCA National Convention, hosted by the OCA Las Vegas chapter, due to the spread of COVID-19 following the Center for Disease Control (CDC), State of Nevada (NV), the World Health Organization (WHO), and various government and international health organization guidelines. These actions are being taken to ensure our chapter members, attendees, and staff are kept safe and healthy during this time. OCA Las Vegas will instead host the National Convention in 2021.
OCA will be hosting the OCA Virtual Summit: From Survival to Resilience: Adapting and building our communities’ resilience during and after COVID-19 on July 31-August 1. This summit will include workshops on how COVID-19 has affected different aspects of our communities’ lives and what we can do to continue empowering and advocating for others in need. OCA will be announcing more information as the event draws near.
The theme for the 2021 Convention will be “Building Our Community’s Heroes.” This theme is intended to both uplift unsung heroes and highlight the importance of mentorship and sponsorship in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. OCA’s goal is that every attendee walks away with inspiration, tools, and knowledge needed to become or build future AAPI heroes.
A big thank you to our Las Vegas chapter for the hard work they put into preparing the 2020 Convention and our sponsors AARP, AT&T, Caesars Entertainment, Charter Communications, Comcast NBCUniversal, McDonald’s, MGM Resorts International, Nielsen, Sodexo, Southwest Airlines, State Farm, the Coca Cola Company, T-Mobile, UPS, Verizon, and Wells Fargo. Additional corporate partners will be announced in the future.
