“During a time of crisis, lawmakers should be focused on legislating, not fundraising. We want those representing us in Washington to work for us and focus on the important issues that our country is facing. We urge Congress to support political reforms that put less pressure on members to fill their campaign coffers and instead put the American people first.”

John,

Coronavirus has halted many aspects of our lives, but it hasn’t slowed down lawmakers’ constant fundraising.

Congressional candidates filed new campaign finance reports earlier this month, and despite the abnormal times we’re living in, members of Congress remain under constant pressure to raise astronomical sums of money.

Fundraising shouldn’t be their main priority — especially when our country is navigating the unprecedented social, economic, and political challenges that this pandemic brings. We need our legislators to put the country and its people first — especially during a public health crisis.

Tell Congress to support comprehensive political reforms that allow members to legislate more and fundraise less.

During the last quarter, the median amount of money raised by a sitting senator up for reelection in 2020 was $1.3 million — or about $14,300 per day. Meanwhile, their House counterparts in competitive toss-up races raised about $750,000 — about $8,200 per day.

Add your name to let Congress know you want them to spend less time fundraising and more time legislating.

Thanks for your support,
