I was thrilled to speak to The Advocate about my campaign and making history in Washington’s 6th District!
Near the end of the interview, they asked what I thought of going to Congress to work with Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who are vocally opposed to equal rights for LGBTQ+ people.
Here’s what I said:
I don’t know how much grace I have in my heart for Marjorie Taylor Greene.
But, I have a lot of grace in my heart for the Republicans that remind me of my dad, who are interested in having conversations and talking through how they got to their position and listening to how I got to mine.
My approach is often showing up and listening, asking ‘what do you mean?’ questions. Sometimes, that doesn’t work, but those conversations matter so much.
John: In the next 70 days, we need to reach out to everyone we know — Democrats, independents, and Republicans alike — to make sure they understand what’s at stake in this election.
With your help, our campaign will be able to spread our positive, pro-choice message to every single person in this District so we can win this race and take back the House. We have to raise another $10,000 before the end of August to stay on track. Please make a contribution of $6 or any amount to fuel our inclusive, community-centered campaign →
