Hi there,

Last week, several of my Swing Left colleagues and I met up at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The energy in the room was electric. As Michelle Obama said in her speech: Hope is making a comeback!

As I talked to people around Chicago and inside the United Center, one thing became very clear: Our party is united, and ready to win. This sense of unity and excitement will be what we draw upon over the next 70 days as we work day and night to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Importantly, we must also channel this enthusiasm to elect the governing majorities in Congress that the Harris-Walz administration will need in order to get big things done!

As I listened to the convention speakers, a theme emerged: What’s next? In fact, many speakers put out a concrete call to, as Michelle Obama said, “do something.” From Barack Obama to Tim Walz to Kamala Harris, many convention speeches reminded us that this election will come down to the work we do on the ground. It will come down to the doors we knock, the small-dollar donations we give, the letters we write to voters.

On Saturday, we answered the call. Immediately following the convention, we carried that excitement to Milwaukee to canvass for Democrats up and down the ballot. Over 200 Swing Left and WisDems volunteers knocked an estimated 10,000 doors alongside partners from SEIU, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, Indivisible Chicago, and more!

The best part? Most of the canvassers I met were canvassing for the first time ever—or the first time in a long time! A few of my favorites:

- [Vicky, Brian, and Jim]([link removed]) from Elgin, IL had never canvassed before and confessed they were a little nervous especially because they’re self-described introverts! They had such a great experience they’re coming back again as soon as they can.

- [Larry]([link removed]), a self-described “political junkie” from Chicago brought a car full of friends and fellow volunteers and enjoyed his canvass so much that he was negotiating carpool logistics to make sure his pals could get back to Chicago—while he stayed to knock out another packet.

- [Joe]([link removed]), [Eric]([link removed]), [Daniella]([link removed]), [Frank]([link removed]), and [Dale]([link removed]), whose stories, motivations, and energy inspired me as much as the mainstage speakers at last week’s convention!

Collectively, we can make sure that Donald Trump never sets foot in the White House again—but only if we continue to channel our enthusiasm into action. If you’re able, please consider [signing up for a canvass in your community]([link removed]) and invest in Democratic victories by [donating to our Immediate Impact Fund]([link removed]).

70 days is not a lot of time, but if one thing is true about the Swing Left community it’s that you’ve always been able to move mountains. To paraphrase our nominee, this political moment did not fall out of a coconut tree. It exists in the context of the conversations you have been having with your neighbors to get out the vote, in the dollars you so generously donate, and all the work we collectively do to get more people to the polls to cast their ballots. As Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have said over and over again: When we fight, we win.

Now, it’s time that we win this, with her, for all of us. For the people.
