John,

We are fired up from our week at the Democratic National Convention, and from all of the lessons we took away from the folks we met there. But as much as I hate to say it, the trip also came with a major downside.

The costs to attend the DNC were way beyond what we’d anticipated. Everything, and I mean everything, was 3x as expensive as you’d expect. Food, water, taxis, even that retainer they take at the hotels when you check in, just in case anything goes wrong.

I knew we couldn’t afford to attend many of the events and parties last week. They cost thousands of dollars to get into. But I never expected we’d be sweating over a 15-minute ride in an Uber.

John, the trip truly cut into us. We won’t be able to attempt any of the ideas we took home from Chicago if we don’t replenish our resources.

I need your help today to keep us on track to flip this seat. As a thank you, I’m sending one of the signs I picked up at the DNC to one lucky supporter! Contribute before midnight if you’d like it to be you!

John, I didn’t look like most of the people I met last week.

This is why working people hardly ever run for Congress. No one is going to let people like us in the room. I don’t mean gay people, either. I mean working people. Struggling or financially stressed people. People who just want to make a difference because they know how the status quo is failing the average American.

I’ve said before that campaigning is a rich man’s game, and that reality was more obvious than ever at the DNC.

If it costs $7,500 to share a brief moment with major national donors, how is the average working-class American going to ever stand a chance against someone like Mike Simpson?

While he votes the way lobbyists and corporations pay him to, he leaves Idaho families to suffer the consequences of bad policy and MAGA extremism.

Idaho families deserve better, and Americans of all backgrounds deserve a more financially diverse legislature considering the impact of policy on our lives, not this bureaucracy concerned with theirs and their friends’ impressive bank accounts.

We can make the difference this year, but not if we don’t act fast. If you can put us back on track TODAY, please pitch in here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/davidroth

Thank you for fighting for a better country with me,

-David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
