I have been thinking a lot about November, and about New Jersey.

I’ve thought about Trump’s rally earlier this year in Wildwood down in Cape May County. How he lied about the number of people at that rally, and then told an even bigger lie about it at his Mar-a-Lago press conference earlier this month.

Trump is as dishonest as the day is long — and, as President Barack Obama mused at the DNC, is just obsessed with crowd sizes.

But in repeatedly, falsely asserting that he would win our state in New Jersey, Donald Trump got an important thing wrong:

He wants to believe that the people of our state are like him — petty, mean, dishonest.

What he doesn’t understand is that his ridiculous claim couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Since a volunteer group of lawyers helped my parents purchase a home in what was previously an all-white neighborhood after witnessing the courage and heroism of Civil Rights activists like John Lewis in Selma, Alabama on Bloody Sunday, the people of New Jersey have shown me the path to building a more just, loving nation.
