John — earlier this year, I visited Commerce City, Colorado, one of the most polluted zip codes in America, where the Suncor refinery has racked up over 9,200 Clean Air Act violations in the last five years. The numbers alone are staggering, but it’s what I saw that haunts me.
Children here are suffering from asthma, nosebleeds, and respiratory illnesses. Residents face alarming health risks, including cancer, all because of corporate polluters who are allowed to operate unchecked.
Commerce City isn’t alone. Across Colorado, thousands of oil and gas wells scar the landscape. Despite being a Democratically-controlled state, Colorado continues to ramp up oil and gas exports. Governor Polis, unfortunately, likes to go easy on polluters, and he has not stepped up to help the people of Commerce City and so many other communities being inundated with toxic pollution. This makes it even more crucial for down-ballot leaders to step up and protect their neighbors in the absence of state leadership.
That’s why I’m writing to you today: I’m incredibly proud to announce that JanePAC is endorsing a new slate of county-level climate champions who are ready to hold the oil and gas giants accountable and protect Colorado families from toxic pollution.
These leaders understand that this election is the most pivotal for climate action in history, and we can’t afford to fumble it. Would you be able to split a contribution today between these incredible candidates and my team at JanePAC? [[link removed]]

Now, let me introduce you to the climate champions who will lead this charge:
* Marta Loachamin is running for re-election as Boulder County Commissioner in District 2. Marta is dedicated to ensuring her community has access to climate recovery resources and clean energy jobs. Marta refuses to take fossil fuel money and isn’t afraid to hold corporate polluters accountable.
* Jody Shadduck-McNally is seeking re-election as Larimer County Commissioner in District 3. She accelerated the implementation of Larimer County's first-ever climate and sustainability plan. She’s been a strong voice in strengthening oil and gas regulations to protect her community's health.
* Steven Arauza is running for Garfield County Commissioner in District 3. As an oil and gas inspector, Steven has seen firsthand the environmental damage caused by this industry. He’s a fierce defender of frontline communities and is committed to adopting a climate action plan and strengthening permitting processes to protect residential areas from pollution.
* Caitlin Carey is also running for Garfield County Commissioner in District 2. She is passionate about bringing clean energy to her community. She’s a loyal protector of public lands and is focused on diversifying the energy portfolio while creating a sustainable economy for the future.
* Naomi López is running for El Paso County Commissioner in District 3. Naomi López is ready to make history as the first Latina on the El Paso County Commission, bringing vital representation to her community. A strong advocate for clean water, she is committed to tackling the PFAS (forever chemicals) contamination crisis and ensuring El Paso County leads in the green energy economy by expanding EV infrastructure. Naomi will bring fresh leadership, prioritizing the health and future of all residents.
These county-level leaders will put people over corporate profits in Colorado, but they need your help to win. Will you support them by splitting a grassroots donation today? [[link removed]]
