Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas have compromised the integrity of the Supreme Court through their unethical behavior, blatant conflicts of interest, and contempt for the law. They must be held accountable for their corrupt behavior.

Justice Thomas accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of extravagant gifts and luxury trips from right-wing billionaires with interests before the Supreme Court, failed to disclose those gifts as required by law, and broke the law by refusing to recuse himself from cases involving the business interests of his billionaire benefactors. He also refused to recuse himself from cases involving attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election even though his wife played a leading role in those efforts.

Meanwhile, weeks after the January 6th insurrection, Justice Alito displayed in his front yard a symbol supporting the insurrection and the efforts to overturn the 2020 election. And in 2023, he flew a symbol of Christian nationalism over his vacation home. Yet, Justice Alito refused to recuse himself from cases involving attempts to overthrow the 2020 presidential election and the January 6th insurrection. Like Justice Thomas, he also failed to disclose luxury travel from a right-wing billionaire to recuse himself from cases involving that billionaire’s interests.

Both Justices have abused their powers to protect and advance their own personal interests and the interests of their wealthy benefactors. This makes them unfit to continue serving on the Supreme Court – and it’s time they’re held accountable.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced articles of impeachment in the US House of Representatives against Justices Alito and Thomas, which would  remove them from their positions on the Supreme Court for “high Crimes and Misdemeanors” under Article II of the Constitution.

The evidence against Justices Alito and Thomas is compelling, and it’s imperative that the Judiciary Committee promptly begin impeachment proceedings against them. But they need to feel the pressure from their colleagues and constituents first.
