Mr. "dead troops are suckers and losers" emerged from his posting dungeon long enough to exploit the deaths of American Marines for a cheap political stunt — and of course, it wouldn't be a Trump event without some appalling breach of basic human courtesy and decency. In this instance, the MAGA cult leader was unable to contain his narcissism long enough to stop himself from grinning like a loon at the camera and giving an excited thumbs up...while at the gravesite of a fallen soldier. Trump was visiting the bodies of the 13 servicemen who were killed by an ISIS-Khorasan bombing at the Abbey Gate of the Kabul Airport during President Biden's troop withdrawal in 2021, blaming Vice President Kamala for their deaths. There was no mention of the 170 innocent Afghan people who were also killed in that attack. Trump's campaign has been defined from the outset by its degeneracy and cynicism, but it is truly repellent to see him pose for the cameras at the graves of fallen soldiers after all the things he's said about them, about this country, and about his fellow Americans.

Democratic Party sues Georgia State Election Board over rules to "prevent chaos"
The Democratic Party has sued the Georgia State Elections Board over a series of new rules that the Trump-approved board members passed in order to throw a wrench into the election. The two rules at issue require election officials to conduct a "reasonable inquiry" into the accuracy of results before certifying them, and to allow individual members of county election boards to look at "election-related documentation created during the conduct of elections.” In practice, this would mean that any of the MAGA election officials could declare election fraud at any time, with no justification, and potentially throw out huge numbers of votes for Kamala Harris — and at the very least, gum up the works long enough for Trump to declare victory and put his newest election steal conspiracy into action. These “new rules” are very obviously being installed in order to tilt the 2024 election in Trump’s favor, and if they succeed, it might be the last election we ever get to vote in.

Pennsylvania county broke law by refusing to tell voters if it rejected their ballot, judge says
Election watchers around the country are raising the alarm about potential electoral interference by Republican officials in swing states — and a case from Washington County, Pennsylvania, shows they're right to be worried. A judge has ruled that GOP officials violated the law when they refused to tell voters that their mail-in ballot had been rejected and wouldn’t be counted in last April’s primary election. As a result, voters in Washington County were unable to exercise their legal right either to challenge the decision of the county elections board or to cast a provisional ballot in place of the rejected mail-in ballot, the judge said. Three-fourths of all mail-in ballots just so happen to be cast by Democrats. Definitely not a coincidence!

It turns out — breaking news — that there is more than one dog at the dog park and Tim Walz likes petting lots of dogs. But of course, thanks to a certain racist billionaire's socila media algorithm, it went mega viral in the very sad and very desperate MAGAsphere. It wasn't very long before even a US senator joined in, as Eric Schmitt from Missouri asked "Why would Tim Walz do this? It’s Creepy™ and Weird™.” Really, dude? "I'm rubber, you're glue?" Is this the best you got? Nothing could be less creepy or weird than petting a dog you met at the dog park. It's pretty normal. What's not normal is Trump literally hating dogs, or Donald Trump Jr. slaughtering endangered animals for sport, or a story about how the newest member of Trump's transition team cut a whale's head offand showered his kids with "whale juice." That's really f*cking weird, man. What is wrong with you people?

Human Rights Watch accuses Israel of torturing Palestinian healthcare workers
A new report from the Human Rights Watch details in horrific detail the torture of Palestinian healthcare workers detained without charge by the IDF, deported to concentration camps in Israel, and tortured. "Released doctors, nurses and paramedics described to Human Rights Watch their mistreatment in Israeli custody, including humiliation, beatings, forced stress positions, prolonged cuffing and blindfolding, and denial of medical care. They also reported torture, including rape and sexual abuse by Israeli forces, denial of medical care, and poor detention conditions for the general detainee population." None of the healthcare workers said they were ever informed of the reason for their detention or charged with an offense. Eyad Abed, 50, a surgeon at the Indonesian Hospital who was detained during a coordinated evacuation of the hospital in November, told HRW that "Every minute we were beaten. I mean all over the body, on sensitive areas between the legs, the chest, the back. We were kicked all over the body and the face. They used the front of their boots which had a metal tip, then their weapons. They had lighters: one soldier tried to burn me but burned the person next to me. I told them I’m a doctor, but they didn’t care." DOCTORS.

Trump judge rules "deadnaming" trans kids teaches...tolerance?
In the latest display of absurd transphobia from a GOP official, Ohio Judge Pamela A. Barker has ruled that a teacher’s lawsuit against her school district can proceed to trial after she was fired for refusing to be a decent person and use two transgender students’ preferred names and pronouns. The teacher, Vivian Geraghty, argued that her Pentecostal religious beliefs prohibited her from accommodating the kids she was supposed to be setting an example for and said she "wanted those students out of her classroom." Naturally, she was fired and then sued the school claiming that she should be allowed to use their "biological" name, which of course is not a real thing unless she meant "homo sapiens." This woman was so committed to being a bully to her students that she rejected all efforts to compromise from both the school and the teachers union and instead got a right-wing hate group to bankroll her lawsuit. She found a willing ear in the judge, who decided that “looking uncomfortable” is not enough to violate title IX, and that instead, the teacher was teaching tolerance by refusing to use their name and pronouns. Her justification? Learning to tolerate bigotry is part of living in a pluralistic society. Um, actually, no, you're just being an asshole to children.

Accused felon and jackbooted thug Ken Paxton sent a SWAT team to kick in the door of an 87-year-old woman and other members of a Latino civil rights group, LULAC, on the bullshit grounds of "voter fraud." LULAC has asked the Justice Department to step in and investigate the raids, which are very clearly designed to intimidate organizers and stymie voter registration efforts. "These actions echo a troubling history of voter suppression and intimidation that has long targeted both Black and Latino communities, particularly in states like Texas, where demographic changes have increasingly shifted the political landscape," LULAC CEO Juan Proaño and the group's national president, Roman Palomares, said a the letter. It should be national front-page news that a powerful Republican has begun abusing the powers of state violence in order to harrass and intimidate Democratic operatives working to make sure everyone gets the chance to exercise their political voice.
